About the Department

We are a friendly, collegial, student-centric department committed to educational excellence in a personal environment. Excellent lab facilities enable students and faculty to utilize current technologies in the classroom and research. Our students engage in extracurricular activities that enrich their learning experience and offer opportunities to interact with peers. Our Faculty and Staff are dedicated to preparing our students for successful careers, life-long learning, and citizenship. We have:

  • Member of Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Academic Alliance and VMware Academic Program (provides various commercial software tools free to eligible CS students)
  • computer science eXperience (csX) offers free peer tutoring and mentoring
  • Active student organizations (ACM, UPE, and CSWoW)
  • Financial aid and on-campus jobs are available for students during their studies
  • Career and internship services for students and graduates (our placement rate is near 100%)

Academic Programs

History

1991B.S. in Computer Science established
1995Department of Computing established from Computer Science & Mathematics faculty
1999Department of Computing becomes Department of Computer Science, reflecting a new focus in its Mission
2001Move to new facilities in the $20-million TLC building (increasing student lab space from 1 shared lab to 6 CS labs)
2002B.S. in Computer Science program accredited by ABET, Inc. (accreditation action extends retroactively from 10/1/2000)
2002M.S. in Applied CS established
2006Graduate Certificates in Computing established
2008ABET, Inc. reaffirms accreditation of B.S. in Computer Science.
