The seal of the Department of Computer Science, established in 2003, is meant to reflect the core values and Mission of the Department.
Student-centric reflects the overall nature and attitude of the Department. Our Faculty and Staff are dedicated to preparing our students for successful careers, life-long learning, and citizenship. The Faculty and Staff pride themselves on being open to and approachable by the students, and the Department actively solicits input from students. Classes in the CS major frequently have less than 15 students, so no student is ever treated just as a number - all are considered valuable members of the Department.
The 0 and 1 in the center represent the elements of the entire binary number system. It is also a 2-bit binary number representation of the number 1 (no, "01" has nothing to do with the year 2001 ;-) ).
Of course, these qualities reflect the overall mission of the University as well:
Educational Excellence in a Personal Environment
