Account Policy

Eligibility

CS accounts are created for students enrolled in CS courses for the purpose of providing access to Departmental lab resources that support teaching and learning in computer science. The Department reserves the right to disable and/or remove accounts for individuals who are no longer affiliated with the Department.

Any student who takes a CS course (with the exception of CS 1000, 1020, and 1030) receives a CSnetID account to access the CS course web. This is referred to as course web level access. This does not provide access to any other CS lab services.

To be eligible for access to additional CS computing resources and services, you will need to

  • have officially declared your major as computer science in the Department of Computer Science office; and
  • be enrolled in CS 1302 and/or upper-division CS courses (includes CS graduate students).

If you are not a CS major, but are enrolled in upper-division CS courses, you may request access to specific services needed for your classes (if any). Your access will remain active while enrolled in these courses only.

Procedure for Account Setup

To have your account setup for full CS lab access, you should see Ms. Alex Young. She will:

  • Verify that you have declared your major as CS. If you have not yet declared, she will help you to do so.
  • Verify your current enrollment.
  • Ask you to read and sign the Department's Computing Resources Usage Agreement to indicate your acknowledgement and acceptance of our policies for acceptable use of CS computing resources.
  • Set you up with card access to enable you to use the CS computing lab (TLC 1-117).

Normally, we will have your account setup within 1 - 2 days. You will also be added to the CS lab portal site in Moodle that provides resources, information, and announcements about using the CS laboratory environment.
