ServicesIn addition to the physical labs, the Department supports a number of services (many of which are available remotely via the Internet) in support of our academic computing needs. All of these services are available to declared CS majors who are currently enrolled in CS 1302 and/or upper-division CS courses (including CS graduate students). Windows Domain AccountsCS majors are eligible for their own accounts within the Department's Active Directory domain environment. These accounts include roaming profiles (available only in CS labs) and network storage space. See our accounts policy for information on getting an account. FreeBSD Compute Server (TURING)TURING is the Department's general purpose UNIX-like computing environment. This server provides shell and VNC access to a variety of UNIX-based tools, compilers, and scripting languages. TURING currently runs on the FreeBSD operating system. See our accounts policy for information on getting an account. SubversionThe Department supports a central Subversion server that provides source code management and version control for use in CS classes and projects. Students may request both a personal repository as well as group project space. More information about Subversion can be found on the project's home page. TracTrac integrates the Department's Subversion system for source code management with project management tools including a wiki, ticketing, and milestone tracking. More information about Trac can be found on the project's home page. MySQLThe Department supports a central MySQL database server to support database courses as well as for use in student projects. |
