Bioinformatics course for Spring '06

September 18 - The Department plans to offer an undergraduate special topics course on bioinformatics for this coming Spring 2006 semester. The tentative description for this course is given below. For additional information, please contact Dr. Muhammad Rahman?.

CS 4985: Introduction to Bioinformatics

This course will provide a general introduction to the area of bioinformatics. It will present selected contemporary molecular biology and genomics data analysis problems from the computer science perspectives and explore solutions to such problems through the available computational techniques and resources. Some of the topics that will be discussed include: physical and genetic mapping, protein folding and structure prediction, sequence homology and alignment, data mining in bioinformatics databases, evolutionary trees and computational models of development, and DNA microarray analysis.
