Students recognized at 7th Annual CS Honors Banquet

April 6 - The Department held its 7th Annual Computer Science Honors Banquet on March 29th, 2006. This event recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of CS students, faculty, and staff. Several CS students were recognized with awards and honors this year.

Awards and Scholarships

The H. Olin Jordan Memorial Scholarship, a scholarship fund for CS undergraduates, created by Mrs. Helen Fillingim in memory of her father, H. Olin Jordan, was awarded to Derek Wisong. Congratulations Derek!

The Outstanding Graduate Research Assistant of the Year award was presented to Sharon Tabit. In addition to assisting students in the Department's csX peer-tutoring lab, Sharon also serves as the csX coordinator.

CS undergraduates Ben Browning and Kaustav Mandal received the James E. Boyd award, a UWG award created in honor of James E. Boyd, former UWG President and Professor of Physics, to recognize outstanding undergraduates majoring in the sciences. Ben and Kaustav were also recognized for the Boyd Award at the University's Honors Convocation earlier in the day.

Two CS grad students, Robin Hollstein and Clinton Phillips were recognized as honorary members of the CS Women of West Georgia (CSWoW) group.

Anna Hix, a CS undergrad, and Blake Adams, a CS grad alum, were also recognized for their recent research accomplishments.

Upsilon Pi Epsilon Initiates

Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the International Honor Society for Computing Sciences, recognizes outstanding students, faculty, and industry professionals for scholarship and committment to advancing the computing field. The Delta Chapter of UPE at UWG holds its annual initiation ceremony in conjunction with the CS Honors Banquet. Nine students were initiated into the society by UWG's Delta Chapter this year:
