Department News for Year 2006
News Index

Oct 10 - The Department will be offering a topics course (for both undergraduate and graduate) this coming Spring semester on wearable computing. The course will be taught by Dr. Jeanette Allen. An abstract of the course is given below.

Wearable Computing: The Geek's New Clothes (CS4985 & CS6985)

Wearable computing is an active research area, exploring the use of computers which accompany us as we move around and offer help as needed, as opposed to computers sitting on a desktop, and passively waiting to be told what to do.

Topics include applications in medicine, security, personal productivity, wayfinding, and athletics. In addition, we will discuss supporting technologies such as RFID, Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS. Students will be expected to read research articles, give short presentations, and complete a project or research paper.

Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm - 4:45pm.

Pre-requisites:

  • For undergraduates, CS 3211.
  • For graduate students, CS 5202 or equivalent.

Please contact Dr. Allen with any questions about this course.
