csXcore enhances peer-tutoring resources for CS students![]() August 24 - This Fall semester, the Department has expanded and enhanced computer science eXperience, its peer-tutoring center for assisting students taking introductory CS courses, with a new component: csXcore. csXcore will focus specifically on assisting students taking one of the Department's introductory computing literacy course offerings that are part of the UWG Core curriculum. "The csXcore lab provides individual peer-tutoring and assistance for all students in CS 1000, 1020, and 1030. csXcore is staffed by CS students who are familiar with the specific content and organization of these courses. They will work one-on-one with students to help with specific questions about their assignments and other course work," says Alex Young, Instructional Technology Specialist and staff coordinator for csX and csXcore. According to Dr. Adel Abunawass, Professor and Chair of the Department, "the addition of csXcore is a natural progression for csX. As we continue to expand our offerings in the Core curriculum, it is important for us to provide individualized peer-tutoring that ensures our students can get the help they need in a personal environment. Focusing csXcore on the individual needs of students in CS 1000, 1020, and 1030 also enhances the ability of csX to focus on our introductory sequence for CS majors (CS 1300, 1301, and 1302). Both csX and csXcore are crucial components of our ongoing efforts to improve student retention, progression, and graduation (RPG) in computer science at UWG."
