Scholarships for CS Students - Spring 2008This page will be updated with future scholarships when they become available. H. Olin Jordan Memorial ScholarshipMrs. Helen Fillingim has graciously dontaed funds to establish this scholarship in honor of her father, Mr. H. Olin Jordan. Mr Jordan was a well known resident of Carrollton and a great friend to the entire community. This endowed scholarship fund will serve as a lasting tribute to Mr. Jordan and help many deserving students. The scholarship will award $700 to a junior or senior at UWG majoring in Computer Science (declaration must be on file with the Department) demonstrating a financial need. In addition, the student must have attained 22 credit hours in CS courses and have a minimum GPA in all CS courses of 3.0 and a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. The scholarship will be awarded at the end of the Spring semester each academic year. To apply for the H. Olin Jordan Memorial Scholarship, students meeting the eligibility requirements should submit an application letter and two letters of reference to the Department of Computer Science (see contact information for mailing address and office location). Applications may be sent either via surface mail or dropped off at the Department office. Application deadline is March 28, 2008. Shirley Caffee Boykin ScholarshipThis award of $400/year is given to an outstanding junior or senior who is majoring Mathematics, Computer Science, or the physical sciences. Student must be enrolled full-time. To apply for the Shirley Caffee Boykin Scholarship, students meeting the eligibility requirements should stop by the Department office to pick up an application. The application consists of an application form, two letters of recommendation, and a writing sample (300 words) describing the applicant's future goals. This scholarship is administered by the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (information on where to turn in the application is provided on the form). Application deadline is March 28, 2008. AES Engineers ScholarshipAES Engineers is pleased to be able to continue providing scholarships to college students regardless of courses being studied who meet certain criteria. The scholarship will award $500 to future learders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. This award is available to all students attending a post secondary educational facility. You are not required to be taking Engineering courses to be eligible. To apply for the AES Engineers Scholarship, students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to one of the two questions that are posted on their site: http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm. Application deadline is September 15, 2008. |
